My “new” machine

Singer Sewing machine vintage 201-2

While I was in Australia, my “new” machine came in the mail.  This past week, I have had a chance to begin cleaning it and get the process rolling to getting it running well and put in my Craigslist cabinet. I decided to purchase a Vintage Singer 201-2 from ebay.  I am anxious to learn about how to thread it and wind the bobbins… I took apart and cleaned the tension knob yesterday – oh the joys of Vintage!!  Super thankful for the internet and the lovely vintage singer owners who share their information ;) .

Yay, it fits!  Very excited to have a flat sewing surface.  I’m headed out to the hardware store today for some primer and paint for this cabinet.  I think turquoise is in my future ;) .

Vintage Sewing Machine

Do any of you have vintage sewing machines?  I am on the hunt.  I am obsessed.  I have been looking for a budget friendly option to get a machine with a larger “arm space” in order to quilt my own quilts at home.  So I started to do some research and it seems as though some vintage Singer’s are a really good option for this.  They are straight stitch workhorse machines and some have the ability to drop the feed dogs to make free motion possible. I want one.  The 15-91 and the 202-2 are the ones I’m looking at… well stalking on ebay and craigslist is more like it.  Here is what they look like.  Do you have a vintage machine?

The 201, slightly larger throat space than the 15-91 and about 5 lbs heavier.

The 15-91.  According to some online research, the bobbin system is a little better for quilting on this machine.

I’ll let you know what my hunt produces!
