What made you want to start Whimsy Quilts and Fabrics?
We both grew up loving bedding, quilts, & beautiful fabrics and we’ve both always loved making a home pretty. Like since we were 5. Fast forward 20 or maybe, ahem, *30* years, and we both decided to make our daughters quilts from the “new” bright, bold, vintage, shabby chic, retro, and fresh fabrics that were available. It’s kind of all history since then. We both fell so in love with the whole process, particularly the designing part and maybe also staring at the pretty fabric part 
, that we started making quilts to sell on Etsy. Then a few years later, last April, we started selling fabric. And haven’t looked back! It’s SO much fun!!
Desiree is a photographer (and since I, Cristi, am writing this, I’m just going to say that she’s a really really rad photographer and that’s why our bundles look so great!!), mom to her fabulous 10 year old daughter “E” and a nanny. She stays pretty busy. =)
I am a SAHM of 3 kiddos, E who is 6, G who is 3 and another G who is 10 months. I used to be a scientist but this business has allowed me to stay home full time. Best.Thing.Ever. !!!
What can customers be sure to find at your shop?
Right now we carry Riley Blake & Lecien fabrics. We try to stock fabrics that we love and would use ourselves. That has resulted in a shop full of bright fabrics, lots of chevrons and beautiful florals. We also stock ALOT of dots, stripes, solids, so we’re a good stop for basics. We plan to carry more designers & manufacturers soon as well. If you have a favorite, let us know! We also have a few baby quilts.
Do you set up custom listings?
Absolutely!! That’s actually preferred because then shipping can be made custom for each package (whereas adding a bunch of fabrics to your cart and purchasing that way usually results in paying shipping overage. FYI, this is probably true at other shops too… I’d suggest always asking for a custom listing!!). We also love to help in the design process or help you make a custom bundle, don’t hesitate to send us a message for help! Right now, however, we aren’t making custom quilts.
If there is something I don’t see in your shop, can you order it?
We’re happy to try!! If it’s a Riley Blake or Lecien fabric, we will always call right away to see if it’s available. If it’s something else, we can look into the process for stocking that particular manufacturer! We’ll never say no to trying!!
