Scirocco Easter Dress

I hope everyone had a nice Easter weekend! Last week I made Ainsley’s Easter dress, the most complicated apparel sewing that I’ve done! I already had this great pattern and decided to go for it for Easter Sunday. Let me just say this was so fun! I had a blast challenging myself to make something new and different and expand my sewing skills. It turned out beautiful and exactly what I had in mind, plus the pattern goes up to size 8/9, so she’ll have many more of these Scirocco dresses! Here are some fun pictures!

Triangle Pillows

I finished up some pillows last week for a silent auction. My Mom is the president of an organization that is doing a silent auction to raise money for charity and asked me to contribute some things… so I did! She told me it was their spring event so she wanted some quilted pillows with a springy feel, so this is what I came up with.

What I’m working on

Now that my shop is all situated and custom orders are completed I wanted to work on some of my own unfinished projects. (Last day for code benefitandbless for 10%off!!) I usually document all of the things happening in the sewing room on instagram, so if you are on there follow me at melaniekham for minute by minute sewing room happenings!
The main project I wanted to get closer to complete is my houndstooth cal king bed quilt. It has been sitting for waaaaay too long and I really need to prioritize getting it complete. Here is a cell phone photo taken the other night when I was adding a few more rows.
The top is now complete… yay! I thought about making it a bit bigger, but to be honest I’m done with it lol. It is already bigger than the comforter we have on the bed now and I’m not sure I would have enough yardage anyway. So it is what it is. I’m pretty sure I won’t make a quilt this size again… each step just takes soooo long! And I haven’t even gotten to the basting, quilting or binding part yet!
I also have been wanting to make myself an ipad case forever!! I finally cut into my stash of Echino fabric and made this ipad cover. I didn’t really follow a pattern and it turned out a little too snug. Without the smart cover it’s perfect. The top has some issues too, but it was a good test run because I discovered I wanted something a bit different. I wanted a zipper or maybe some more functionality… I wasn’t sure.
My friend sent me a link to the idea pouch from Michelle Patterns and I was like… that’s it! That’s what I want! So I purchased the pattern right away and I completed it yesterday.
I really like that it was the extra pocket up front and the pen holders. The main compartment is plenty big enough for the ipad and even some more things. I really like how it turned out and it was fun to make.
Next up is to baste that cal king quilt and decide how I want to quilt it! I think it will need to be super simple quilting so that I can complete it on my Singer. I also have my Craftsy quilt to quilt and bind plus a big fabric order came in the mail for some fun new things!! And I’m trying to develop a new crochet pattern… busy busy! Have a great day!
